Both Neon and argon gas are inert gasses. If with neon or argon gas a few drops of mercury are added in the tube it will not cause any damage as long as the tube is intact. If the tube is broken it create problem to both environment and health. Due to this reason, many neon shops do not repair neon tubes.
For accuracy sake, all neon signs are manufactured over a fire resistant pattern. Other artistic work can be produced freehand.
Neon sign can be read within 350 feet, even in bright daylight.
Expected life span for a Neon is somewhere between 8 to 15 years. If glass tube is coated it can last for nearly 20,000 hours and if tubes are working on high-powered power supplies, lifespan of tube will reduce.
