The word neon means "new gas" it was coined from the Greek "neos". Neon sign is a product of the gradual growth of the ancient Geissler tube also called a Crookes tube, made-up by Heinrich Geissler, a German glassblower and physicist. After the creation of the Geissler tube, many inventors started conduct experiment with tubes, electrical power and different gases. In 1900, a variety of experiments led to the creation of electric release or vapor lamps in the United States and Europe. Discharge lamps are lighted gadgets that compose of a clear container in which a gas is motorized by an applied electrical energy, and so made to glow. Finally, after that, thanks to the French chemist, engineer and inventor Georges Claude, he developed the initial Neon Signs. He was the 1st one to make use of an electrical current to a preserved tube of neon gas in 1902 to create a light.

It is natural to take this little piece of light as trivial. Here are a few of it uses that will sure enhance its worth;* At normal voltage and current neon has the capacity to discharge electricity. This is the specialty that neon has over other inert gases.

* It is otherwise called as fill gas. This is mainly due to its extensive use in open air promotion displays.

* A gleaming blue color can be produced if a hint of mercury is added to it.

* Mercury and neon can together produce a wide range of shade of colors. This can be achieved by varying their composition. This effect is usually used for enhancing an interior of a place. It might be for residential or landscaping use.

* The most profitable purpose of neon is the Neon Signs. The neon sign doubles up your business.

* Neon signs go through fog. This makes it most wanted as an element in aircraft industry.

Neon signs are filled with argon gas is also characteristically full with a small drop of mercury.

Mercury is found to be damaging to human in concentrated amount.

You might also discover mercury in standard fluorescent lights, as well as, the new power reduction light bulbs that are quickly becoming popular household items in the United States. A careful cleanup and removal is suggested for any of these items.

At the present with all of that thought, ALL NEON SIGNS ARE NOT FILLED WITH MERCURY.

Neon signs are filled with argon gas (red) is not characteristically filled with any mercury at all. There is no obvious danger outside of being cut from a broken part of glass and this may appear obvious but be in no doubt to unplug any neon sign that is broken to avoid shock danger or fire.

Fluorescent lights and neon signs are the two most popular plasma devices. Both of these plasma devices are commonly used in commercial spaces. Now let’s see what makes them different from each other.

* Fluorescent lights are most often straight and long tubes. Neon tubes are thin and long.

* While fluorescent lights emit white light, its cousin has the capability to emit various colored lights.

* Neon lights can be bent to any shape that we want. Whereas fluorescent lights cannot be bent to make shapes.

* Fluorescent tubes give of light with the help of phosphor. Phosphor can accept one form of energy and give back the energy as visible light. Neon atoms produce colored lights in a neon tube.

* Fluorescent lamps are more complicated than neon bulbs.

Fluorescent lights can be seen in stores, houses and offices. Neon lights can be seen in advertising signs.
