Fluorescent lights and neon signs are the two most popular plasma devices. Both of these plasma devices are commonly used in commercial spaces. Now let’s see what makes them different from each other.
* Fluorescent lights are most often straight and long tubes. Neon tubes are thin and long.
* While fluorescent lights emit white light, its cousin has the capability to emit various colored lights.
* Neon lights can be bent to any shape that we want. Whereas fluorescent lights cannot be bent to make shapes.
* Fluorescent tubes give of light with the help of phosphor. Phosphor can accept one form of energy and give back the energy as visible light. Neon atoms produce colored lights in a neon tube.
* Fluorescent lamps are more complicated than neon bulbs.
Fluorescent lights can be seen in stores, houses and offices. Neon lights can be seen in advertising signs.

- Neon gas produces red light. Nearly 150 colors can be created with the help of other gases. Some commonly used gases are argon, phosphor, xenon, helium and mercury.
- It was Georges Claude who sold two signs to the Packard car company in 1923.
